Model 205
Chamber Grand
Description
In the early 1980’s, we redesigned the
Steingraeber 205 on the basis of a design by Steingraeber’s founding father - THE
design which gave rise to the sound profile of Liszt’s Steingraeber grand. This model is
popular for recording sessions, conservatories, music festivals of Chamber, Jazz or New Music
and is often requested for Lieder recitals.
What makes this instrument so special is the subtle transparency of its
tone. The 205 grand marks the realization of an unusual technical concept: Whereas
the arched, well-sprung soundboard is comparatively slim, the design permits extremely
long strings. Together, these two features make for dynamic diversity with a constant
clarity of tone, whether the voicing of the hammer heads tend towards the lyrical or the
brilliant. Demanding pianists also value the professional action of this grand which has
one of the highest repetition speeds available. The basic version is Model 205 N
Classical with three pedals (sostenuto), three lid props and large brass
castors. There are countless variations available, ranging from the
Classicist and Renaissance to the Baroque and Rococo, the rim of
which has a sweeping lower edge. Photographs of all these
styles are available upon request.
